Course Content – For Professionals
Introduction
Exploitation is sadly rising, with a 45% increase from 2021 of referrals regarding children into the National Referral Mechanism. 3’123 of these were due to criminal exploitation. 44% of referrals regarding sex trafficking were regarding children (NRM, 2023).
We can all support children/young people being exploited by knowing the signs and how to support them.
What does the training include?

- Trauma-informed response.

Course Content – For Parents/Guardians/Adults
Introduction
Exploitation is sadly rising, with a 45% increase from 2021 of referrals regarding children into the National Referral Mechanism. 3’123 of these were due to criminal exploitation. 44% of referrals regarding sex trafficking were regarding children (NRM, 2023).
Exploitation put simply, is when someone (in this case, a child or young person) is coerced into doing something that they don’t want to do in exchange for items, money or fear/threat. There are two main types of exploitation: criminal and sexual. Criminal exploitation is often in relation to gangs/criminal activity and something called “county lines” which is referring to drug dealing between counties, often facilitated by young people on train lines.
What does the training include?
Our training aims to give you an overview of childhood exploitation, how to recognise this in a child/young person in school settings or home settings, risk factors, how to support them and how to refer these concerns appropriately as well as support available for the child/young person and their family.

- How to refer into children’s service’s for support.
- The role of children’s services – break the taboo.
- How to have the conversation with your child/young person about exploitation.
Where is the training?
Online via MS teams or face-to-face for group bookings. Discounts are applicable for group bookings, please enquire to discuss.
How long is the training?
We allow 60-90 minutes due to the sensitive nature and our desire to deliver without rush.
Is this course CPD certified?
No, but you can have a certificate of attendance.
How much does this cost?

Course Content – For Children/Young Adults
Introduction
Put simply, exploitation is when someone is forced to do things that they don’t want to do for gifts/money or through fear. Sometimes people do not know they are being exploited and my training can give you the knowledge to recognise this for yourself and also others such as friends, siblings or even cousins!
This training is similar to the training provided to adults regarding exploitation, however this is child/young person focussed and age appropriate.
We offer a session for 10-12 year olds (year 6 and 7), 12-14 (year 8 and 9) and 15-17 year olds (year 10 and 11).

The training includes:

- Different types of exploitation.
- Local and national figures.
- Signs of exploitation.
- Impact of exploitation.
- Risk factors for exploitation.
- Local services to reach out to.
- The role of children’s services – break the taboo.
- How to have the conversation with a trusted adult if you or someone you know is being exploited.
